Time For A Garden!
Wingold Grange #308 of East Kingston, with the help of the Northeast Organic Farming Association --New Hampshire Chapter (NOFA-NH) and UNH Cooperative Extension, Rockingham County will be doing a program on different sustainable Techniques on how to Garden.
This Program will be put on February 11, 2012 at the East Kingston Pound School (formally the East Kingston Public Library), from 1:00-4:00 pm. The program is designed to give a starting point plus contacts for more information. There is no cost and all are welcome, but sadly space will be limited and a count of people attending will be needed. To make your reservation or get more information you can contact Norman Brandt at 642-5074 or Email.
Speakers include but are not limited to:
- Nada Haddad, Agriculture Extension Educator with the UNH Cooperative Extension of Rockingham County; whom will be going over a more traditional method of sustainable Gardening, how to build soil, tell if you need soil amendments, how to control and manage pests, and preparing your soil.
- Amy Antonucci is a certified permaculture designer and the co-organizer of the Greater Seacoast Permaculture meet-up group based in Dover NH. She also keeps bees, chickens, and goats on her small Barrington homestead, and worked in organic agriculture for over ten years. She has spoken at libraries, schools, garden clubs and conferences. Amy will be there to talk about Building Great No-Till, No-Dig Garden Beds. This technique, called Sheet Mulching by permaculturists, Weedless Gardening by author & organic gardener Lee Reich, and Lasagna Gardening by author Patricia Lanza, creates gardens without the back-breaking work of digging or rototilling. Furthermore, sheet mulching can be done with readily available, inexpensive (or free!) materials and actually creates productive soil.
For more information or to make reservation please call Norman at 603-642-5074 or Email. For information on Grange please visit www.nhgrange.org; UNH Cooperative Extension service please visit www.extension.unh.edu; The NOFA-NH please visit www.nofanh.org.
