November Meeting "Putting Your Garden to Rest for the Winter" - 11/5 6 PM
The Homesteading (Gardener's) Roundtable will hold their November meeting Tuesday, November 5th at 6 PM. Because of the library's new hours, meetings will now be held on the first Tuesday of each month. With Winter just around the corner, now is the time to start thinking about putting your garden to rest. Amanda Estee from Cameron's Home and Garden Center will be visiting us to talk about preparing your garden for the colder months and having it ready for another prosperous growing season next year!
The Homesteading Roundtable (formerly the Gardener's Roundtable) is a group of gardeners and homesteaders in Farmington, NH, and the surrounding communities. We meet at the Goodwin Library in Farmington, NH, but anyone is welcome regardless of whether or not they have a library card. We invite a different speaker to our meeting each month and have covered a wide variety of topics in the past year such as hydroponics, home beer making, and Lyme disease prevention.

Did You Miss The Gardener's Roundtable Presentation On Homebrewing? View It Now.
The Gardener's Roundtable had Michael Snyder of One Love Brewery for the October program; he discussed homebrewing beer. He talked about the equipment and ingredients that are needed in the beer making process. He also covered any different styles of beer, fermentation, and homebrewing from a professional perspective. One Love Brewery is a new brewery opening in Dover, NH, that will share its roof with 7th Settlement Brewery. Both breweries believe in supporting the community that helped them grow and will be using locally farmed foods in their seasonal menus at the brewery/restaurant. Enjoy the video!
Two books Michael Snyder of One Love Brewery recommended.

August Gardener's Roundtable Meeting - "Under Our Skin" August 7, 6 PM
After a one month hiatus, the Gardener's Roundtable will be meeting next month on August 7th at 6PM. We will be screening "Under Our Skin" and Dr. Steve Clark will answer your questions about Lyme Disease following the film.
"UNDER
OUR SKIN"...A gripping tale of microbes, medicine & money will be shown
at the Goodwin Library in Farmington on Wednesday, August 7th at 6
pm. The documentary showing is sponsored
by Lyme411 a NH patient support group.
UNDER OUR SKIN exposes the hidden story of Lyme
disease, one of the most serious and controversial epidemics of our time. Slate
Magazine called it "Head-spinning...riveting...a
rigorously researched and highly thorough piece of investigative
reporting."
Each year, thousands go undiagnosed or
misdiagnosed, often told that their symptoms are all in their head. Following
the stories of patients and physicians fighting for their lives and
livelihoods, the film brings into focus a haunting picture of the health care
system and a medical establishment all too willing to put profits ahead of
patients. Please note that the movie is
not suitable for children.
A question and answer session with Dr. Steve
Clark, ND will follow immediately after the film. Dr. Clark is an experienced Lyme-treating
Naturopathic Physician.. Lyme411 holds
monthly support group meetings in Laconia for people living with tick-borne
illnesses as well as their family members and friends. For more information about Lyme 411 visit
www.LYme411.org or call 888-596-5698 (messages are usually returned within 24
hours). For more information about the
showing call Cyndi at 755-2762.

The Gardener's Roundtable will be meeting this Wednesday at 6PM! Bugs, diseases, the weather, critters…they all make gardening a challenge! How do I know which one is the problem? In many cases, you can take simple steps to reduce the chances of having some of our major garden pests. This presentation by Kelly McAdam, Food & Agriculture Field Specialist with UNH Cooperative Extension in Strafford County, will give an overview of how to identify which pest you have and environmentally-friendly ways to control some of the most common garden pests. The Cooperative Extension provides New Hampshire citizens with research-based education and information, enhancing their ability to make informed decisions that strengthen youth, families and communities, sustain natural resources, and improve the economy. Don’t miss this opportunity to find ways to deal with what is bugging YOU!

Monthly Garden Tips-Damping Off
Monthly Garden Tips
Damping Off
Damping off
is a term used for sudden seedling death by any of a handful of fungal diseases
including several root rots and molds.
Some seedlings look pinched at the base of the stem, others flop over,
and some wither away entirely.
Prevention is the best cure. To
reduce or eliminate damping off on young seedlings, do not overwater. Increase air circulation by not overcrowding
the seedlings and fan them occasionally to promote air movement. The clear plastic dome that comes with most
seed starting trays should be removed once seedlings begin to sprout as it both
hampers air flow and increases the moisture around the seedlings. Remember that cooler temperatures are better than
warmer ones and do not over fertilize.
Young seedlings are damaged by too much fertilizer. Watering or misting seedlings with an
antifungal solution can also help protect your seedlings. One tablespoon of 3% hydrogen peroxide per
quart of water is sufficient. Happy
gardening!
